Cleon Jones knocked in two runs with an RBI single in the 5th inning to put the Mets in the lead, and they went on to defeat the Astros, 3-2.  Bud Harrelson went 4-for-4 with a double and a triple.  Jimmy Wynn homered for Houston.

Mets lead series 1-0.

Art Shamsky went 2-for-3 and drove in what proved to be the winning run in a 2-1 Mets victory over the Astros.  Cleon Jones also had two hits for New York, while Denis Menke accounted for two of the three Houston base hits.

Mets lead series 2-0.

Tommy Davis doubled home Johnny Edwards with the go-ahead run in the bottom of the 8th for a 4-3 Astros win over the Mets.  Ed Kranepool had a homer for New York, and Mets pitcher Gary Gentry went 3-for-3 at the plate.

Mets lead series 2-1.

Jimmy Wynn's two-run homer in the 3rd gave the Astros the lead, and they went on to defeat the Mets, 4-3.  Ed Kranepool had a two-run homer for New York, and Houston starter Jim Ray struck out nine in six innings of work.

Series tied 2-2.

The Astros took advantage of a rough outing by Mets 25-game-winner Tom Seaver (7 walks in three and a third innings) and three New York errors to win, 8-6.  New York pitchers allowed 12 walks, three with the bases loaded.  The game wasn't close until the last two innings, when the Houston bullpen allowed the Mets to pull within two runs.  Jesus Alou had a 3-for-4 day for the Astros.

Astros lead series, 3-2.

Pinch-hitter Norm Miller's two-run homer broke a 2-2 tie as the Astros defeated the Mets, 7-2, to win their series.  Denis Menke had three hits for Houston, while Jerry Grote did the same for New York.  The Mets left 15 runners on base in the game.

Astros win series, 4-2.

Series MVP - Jimmy Wynn (.333, 2 HR, 7 RBI, 3 runs scored).
