Andy Messersmith took a shutout into the ninth inning, before needed help from the bullpen to finish off an 8-1 California win over Milwaukee.  Alex Johnson led the offense for the Angels with a homer and four RBIs.

Alex Johnson homered and drove in five runs, and Jim Spencer added a homer and three RBIs, as the Angels defeated the Brewers, 12-5.  Jim Fregosi also had a home run and went 3-for-5 for California, while Tommy Harper had four hits for Milwaukee.
