Revisionist Baseball

1976 Season

The 1976 season saw the Yankees return to the World Series for the first time since 1964.  This time they had to beat the Royals, second best team in the league, which they only managed to do in the last inning of the final game of the Championship Series.  In the NL we missed what would have been an outstanding pennant race between Cincinnati (last year's winner) and Philadelphia.  The Reds prevailed by one game, and then swept the Phillies in the Championship Series, so for the first time since 1971 we had the best team in each league go on to the World Series.
