A two-run homer by Jose Cruz in the top of the first inning was all the offense the Astros needed as they beat the Yankees, 2-1, behind Joe Niekro and two relievers.  Niekro walked 6, but New York left 11 on base to waste the opportunities.

Astros lead series 1-0.

An RBI single by Bobby Murcer and a sacrifice fly by Graig Nettles were the deciding hits in a 3-1 New York victory.  Houston outhit the Yankees, 10-6, but the Yankees turned three double plays behind Ron Guidry to kill a few rallies.  Denny Walling went 3-for-4 for Houston.

Series tied 1-1.

Rudy May pitched a 4-hit shutout, while Oscar Gamble and Graig Nettles drove in 5 runs between them on two homers, as the Yankees defeated the Astros, 6-0.  Reggie Jackson had three hits, including a double.

Yankees lead series 2-1.

The Yankees scored five times in the top of the 7th on a pinch-hit RBI-single by Lou Piniella, a sacrifice fly by Bob Watson, and a 3-run homer by Oscar Gamble, but then Ron Davis gave up 4 in the bottom of the inning, with Denny Walling's two-run double being the big hit.  The Astros went on to win, 9-6, to even the Series at two games apiece.

Series tied 2-2.

The Houston Astros scored 15 runs in the game, with five RBI each from Jose Cruz (4-for-4) and Cesar Cedeno, and routed the Yankees, 15-5,  A 3-run homer by Reggie Jackson in the top of the 9th made the game a little closer.  Willie Randolph went 4-for-5 for the Yankees, who were only outhit by one.

Astros lead series 3-2.

Tied 7-7 after 6 innings, the Astros scored single runs in the 7th (on an RBI double by Denny Walling) and the 8th (a sac fly by Craig Reynolds) to beat the Yankees, 9-7, and win the 1980 World Series.  Walling and Alan Ashby had 3 hits each for Houston, while Oscar Gamble and Bobby Murcer did the same for New York.  Murcer also had a home run.

Astros win series 4-2.

Series MVP - Jose Cruz (.520, 3 HR, 10 RBI, 7 runs scored).
