Revisionist Baseball

1981 Season

The 1981 season was a complete disaster.  First, there was a player strike that wiped out the middle third of the season.  Then the ill-conceived idea of the split-season left the team with the best record, the Cincinnati Reds, out of the postseason entirely.  Not to mention a few cases where a team was better off losing a game than winning it.  The AL would have had a close pennant race, with no fewer than 7 teams finishing within 5 games of the top.  And the NL had 3 teams within 5 games.  We ended up with a World Series matching the 4th place Yankees against the 3rd place Dodgers.  We will play the Oakland - Cincinnati series, and then we'll play the games eliminated by the strike, and replay the Series again if the pennant winners change.
