The Yankees managed only two hits in game 4, but did score their second run of the Series. It wasn't enough, though and New York fell to a 3-1 deficit in the Series. New York did score first, as Paul O'Neill drove one over the wall in the second inning. But Montreal came back with three in their half of the 3rd. A walk to Marquis Grissom, doubles by Moises Alou and Larry Walker, and a single by Wil Cordero made it 3-1. A Grissom HR in the 7th provided an insurance run.
Expos lead series 3-1.

The Yankees played it a bit more aggressively in game 5. Bernie Williams led off with a single and stole second. He advanced to third on a ground out by Boggs and scored on O'Neill's groundout. Montreal tied it in the 2nd, as Yankee catcher Nokes couldn't hold on to a throw by Williams, allowing Lenny Webster to score. An RBI double by Mike Lansing put the Expos up by one in the 4th. The Yankees managed to tie it again in the 6th, as Wade Boggs doubled to score Luis Polonia, who pinch-hit a triple. Boggs was thrown out trying to score on O'Neill's single to prevent New York from taking the lead. An error by Randy Velarde at short allowed Cliff Floyd to score the go-ahead run in the seventh. The Yanks went quietly in the 8th (against Rojas) and 9th (Wetteland) to end the Series.
Expos win series 4-1.
Series MVP - Moises Alou (.526, 3 RBI, 4 runs scored).
