1998 Season
The Yankees had a season so outstanding they should have been given an automatic ticket to the World Series. But in the Wild Card era, they still had to get past 88-74 Texas and 89-73 Cleveland to make it. Fortunately, they were up to the challenge. In the NL, the Atlanta Braves won their 4th straight pennant, winning 106 games to beat out Houston (102 wins). Yet it was third place San Diego representing the National League in the Series, and getting swept in the process. Would Atlanta have been more successful? Well, not really. They did take our simulated World Series to 5 games instead of 4, but the Yankees were still the World Champs.
