1999 Season
The 1999 AL race would have been a classic, with the top 4 teams only 4 games apart at the end. But in the Wild Card Era, all 4 knew they would make the playoffs, so there was no suspense at all during the last month of the season. The NL was in a similar situation, except that there was a bit of a race for the Wild Card spot, to see which also-ran team would be allowed into the postseason. The Yankees and Braves (who won their 5th straight pennant) made it to the top again, and this time both got through to the World Series, where the Yankees swept to another title.

The New York Yankees and Cleveland Indians battled it out during the month
of September, with the lead changing hands a few times, and the Yankees finally
clinched the title on the final day as Cleveland lost to Toronto, 9-2. Details.
NATIONAL LEAGUE
The Atlanta Braves edged the Arizona Diamondbacks by 3 games after surviving
challenges by the Houston Astros and New York Mets in the final month of the
season. Details.
WORLD SERIES
Since both first place teams actually
played in the real World Series, we had no need to play one. The Yankees
