2001 Season

The 2001 season saw a runaway in the American League, as Seattle set a league record for wins, while the National League race was close all season and finally ended in a tie between the Houston Astros and the St. Louis Cardinals.  Houston won the playoff game, 1-0, but was swept by Seattle in the Revisionist World Series.

PENNANT RACE

AMERICAN LEAGUE
The Seattle Mariners tied the major league record for wins with 116 as they dominated the AL.  Details.

NATIONAL LEAGUE
A late slump by Houston left them tied with St. Louis at the end of the season after a hard fought 8-team race.  Details.

WORLD SERIES
The Seattle Mariners shut down the Houston offense with two shutouts en route to a 4-game sweep.  Details.
