2002 Season

The 2002 season was very close, as the New York Yankees edged the Oakland A's by a single game, and had to beat Tampa Bay in a makeup game on the last day of the season to do it.  In the National League, the Atlanta Braves started out poorly, but then put together a fine second half and beat out Arizona and St. Louis for the pennant.
